OpenAI Launches In-Chat Shopping with Stripe, Shopify
The feature runs on the Agentic Commerce Protocol (ACP), co-developed with Stripe.

OpenAI has unveiled Instant Checkout, a new feature that lets ChatGPT users buy products directly in chat. The service is now live for US users on Etsy and will soon expand to Shopify merchants including Glossier, Vuori, Spanx, and SKIMS. The rollout applies across ChatGPT Pro, Plus, and free accounts.
The feature runs on the Agentic Commerce Protocol (ACP), co-developed with Stripe. ACP allows businesses to keep full control over transactions while enabling AI agents to securely process payments. It connects seamlessly with commerce backends and supports subscriptions, asynchronous orders, digital goods, multi-merchant carts, and even in-store pickup.
"This marks the next step in agentic commerce, where ChatGPT doesn’t just help you find what to buy, it also helps you buy it. For shoppers, it’s seamless: go from chat to checkout in just a few taps. For sellers, it’s a new way to reach hundreds of millions of people while keeping full control of their payments, systems, and customer relationships," OpenAI said in a blog post.
ChatGPT already helps millions of people find what to buy. Now it can help them buy it too.

“Shopify merchants will be able to sell directly in ChatGPT. We’ve been working with OpenAI for quite some time so people can search and buy products in chat, and it’s something we’ve had a hard time keeping quiet,” Shopify CEO Tobi Lütke posted on X.
By opening the ACP specification under Apache 2.0, OpenAI and Stripe are pushing to make AI-powered shopping a new commerce standard, turning conversations into transactions while preserving brand control and buyer trust.
