The project allows people to upload their ChatGPT histories, gain insights, and earn rewards in the form of $GPT tokens.

A new initiative called the ChatGPT Data Collective has launched today, aiming to shift control of AI training data back to the users who generate it. In partnership with the Vana Foundation, the project allows people to upload their ChatGPT histories, gain insights, and earn rewards in the form of $GPT tokens.
The collective invites users to contribute their exported ChatGPT data—entire conversations, feedback, and metadata like subscription tier or language settings.
In return, participants receive tokens that serve both as a reward and a governance tool, enabling them to vote on data usage policies and future tools built from the dataset.
“The ChatGPT Data Collective gives users the power not just to reflect on that data, but to decide how it’s used and valued—putting control and ownership back where it belongs: with the user,” Anna Kazlauskas, CEO of OpenDataLabs and creator of Vana, said.
Structured as a decentralised autonomous organization (DAO), the project emphasises transparency and privacy. All data remains encrypted and editable until users choose to contribute it.
The initiative arrives amid growing criticism of AI firms for using user data without consent, offering a user-driven, privacy-first alternative for AI participation.
