Microsoft has introduced a new AI-driven cybersecurity platform, [Project Perception](https://blogs.microsoft.com/blog/2026/07/27/rethinking-security-for-the-age-of-ai/?ref=theleftshift.com), to help enterprises defend against a rapidly evolving threat landscape in which attackers are increasingly leveraging artificial intelligence to launch faster, more sophisticated cyberattacks.

The development comes amid reports that [OpenAI's experimental AI models breached parts of Hugging Face's infrastructure](https://www.theleftshift.com/openai-says-experimental-ai-models-breached-hugging-face-in-first-of-its-kind-cyberattack/) during an internal cyber capability evaluation.

[Microsoft](https://www.theleftshift.com/microsoft-shifts-more-ai-workloads-to-in-house-mai-models-to-cut-costs/) said the new system represents a shift from traditional security operations that rely heavily on human analysts to an "agentic" security model capable of continuously identifying risks, reasoning across vast amounts of security data, and taking action at machine speed.

Project Perception, which enters public preview on August 3, is designed around Microsoft's vision of a new "Cyber Stack" that combines [AI models](https://www.theleftshift.com/anthropic-launches-claude-opus-5-bringing-near-frontier-ai-performance-at-half-the-cost/), specialised security agents, contextual intelligence, and automated response mechanisms to detect and mitigate threats before they can be exploited.

At the heart of Project Perception are three specialised AI agent teams that work together in a continuous security loop. Red team agents simulate attacks and identify vulnerabilities before adversaries can exploit them, blue team agents investigate and prioritise risks, while green team agents automatically remediate issues and strengthen defenses across enterprise environments.

The platform also adopts a [multi-model AI architecture](https://zenvanriel.com/ai-engineer-blog/multi-model-ai-architectures-combining-different-models/?ref=theleftshift.com) instead of relying on a single large language model. Microsoft said the approach allows the system to select the most appropriate AI model based on the security task, balancing accuracy, latency, reliability, and operating costs.

As part of the rollout, Microsoft is integrating its specialised MAI-Cyber-1-Flash model into its software vulnerability management platform, MDASH. The company claims the model achieved 96% on the [CyberGym](https://www.cybergym.io/?ref=theleftshift.com) benchmark, outperforming Mythos by 12 percentage points while reducing operating costs by nearly 50%.

> Big news! Our new MAI-Cyber-1-Flash model combined with MDASH, our multi agent security harness, delivers 96% on the CyberGym benchmark, 12pts above Mythos, at HALF the cost.

Project Perception is deeply integrated with Microsoft's security ecosystem, including identity, endpoint, cloud, application, data, and threat intelligence services, enabling organisations to move beyond detecting threats to automatically reducing risk.

Microsoft said the platform is built on its Responsible AI principles and incorporates enterprise-grade governance, compliance, and security controls, positioning it as a foundation for next-generation AI-powered cyber defense.
