[Meta](https://about.meta.com/?ref=theleftshift.com) is reportedly preparing to launch a standalone app for its AI assistant, Meta AI, aiming to better compete with AI-powered chatbots like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini.

According to a *CNBC* [report](https://www.cnbc.com/2025/02/27/meta-plans-to-release-a-standalone-meta-ai-app.html?ref=theleftshift.com), the app could debut as early as the next fiscal quarter (April-June). Currently, Meta AI is accessible through a website and Meta’s family of apps, including Facebook and WhatsApp.

In addition to the standalone app, Meta is considering introducing a paid subscription service for Meta AI, which will unlock additional capabilities for the assistant, although pricing details remain unclear.

With over 700 million active monthly users, Meta AI is central to Meta’s ambitious strategy to solidify its position in the AI landscape. The company has also made significant strides with open models like Llama, aiming to build an ecosystem that rivals OpenAI's.

Reacting to the same, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman [joked](https://x.com/sama/status/1895230925753233763?ref=theleftshift.com) on X( previously Twitter) that the startup will soon release a social media app like Facebook.
