Jeff Bezos' Project Prometheus Acquires AI Agent Startup General Agents to Advance Manufacturing Automation

Project Prometheus, a new artificial intelligence company co-led by Jeff Bezos, has quietly acquired General Agents, a little-known startup specialising in autonomous computer-control agents, according to a report from Wired. The financial terms were not disclosed.

Project Prometheus was revealed last week by The New York Times, which reported that the company has raised $6.2 billion from a consortium of investors that includes Bezos.

The venture is co-led by Bezos and Vik Bajaj, a serial entrepreneur who previously co-founded Alphabet’s Verily life sciences division. The company is said to be developing AI systems that can “support the manufacturing of computers, cars and even spacecraft,” though details on these capabilities remain under wraps.

General Agents was reportedly acquired in June, shortly after co-founder and former Google DeepMind researcher Sherjil Ozair attended an AI event hosted by Bajaj. The startup’s other co-founder, William Guss, previously worked as a researcher at OpenAI.

General Agents built Ace, an autonomous AI agent capable of editing videos, transferring data between applications and booking accommodations.

The company claims Ace outperforms OpenAI’s Operator in certain tasks. Ace runs on custom VLA-based models—an architecture commonly used to train robotic systems—which may explain Project Prometheus’ interest as it pursues AI for manufacturing and industrial automation.

Project Prometheus has reportedly hired several General Agents employees, including both founders, bringing its headcount to more than 100.
