# Infineon Acquires Bengaluru Chip Startup C2i Semiconductors to Power Next-Gen AI Data Centres

German semiconductor giant Infineon Technologies has [acquired](https://www.infineon.com/press-release/2026/infpr202608-129?ref=theleftshift.com) Bengaluru-based C2i Semiconductors, a technology company developing software-defined multiphase controllers and smart power stages for AI data centres.

Announced on August 24, the acquisition will strengthen Infineon’s power solutions for AI infrastructure while expanding its engineering and digital power capabilities in India. The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of calendar year 2026.

C2i Semiconductors’ technology is designed to make power delivery systems more intelligent and adaptive, addressing the increasingly demanding power requirements of AI servers and high-performance computing platforms.

Software-defined power technology combines power semiconductors with digital controls and software algorithms to manage power conversion and regulation in real time. The technology becomes increasingly important as AI processors demand more power and generate rapid fluctuations in workloads.

Infineon said C2i’s system-level approach covers power delivery from the grid to the processor core, potentially helping data centers improve energy efficiency, reduce power losses and support higher power densities.

The deal will combine C2i’s digital power expertise with Infineon’s semiconductor portfolio, which includes silicon, silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN) technologies. The companies will also work on next-generation vertical power delivery architectures, including potential Substrate Integrated Voltage Regulators (SIVR).

The acquisition further expands Infineon’s R&D capabilities in India, where the company currently employs approximately 2,800 people, reinforcing Bengaluru’s role in the global semiconductor innovation ecosystem.
