Hugging Face has announced that Reachy Mini, a compact open-source robot built for AI experimentation, education, and human-robot interaction, is now available for global pre-orders.

Reachy Mini was announced in May, along with HopeJR, which is a full-size robot featuring 66 degrees of freedom, allowing it to walk and move its arms.

Reachy Mini comes in two versions—Lite ($299) and Wireless ($449)—targeted at developers, educators, and hobbyists.

Designed for creative coding and real-time behaviour sharing, Reachy Mini can be programmed using Python, with support for multimodal sensors and integration with Hugging Face’s platform for uploading and downloading robot behaviours.

The Lite version lacks onboard computing and Wi-Fi, while the Wireless version includes a Raspberry Pi 5, battery, and four microphones. Both feature animated antennas, motorised head movement, body rotation, a wide-angle camera, and audio-visual interaction capabilities.

“Whether you're an AI developer, hacker, researcher, teacher, robot enthusiast, or just coding with your kids on the weekend, Reachy Mini lets you develop, test, deploy, and share real-world AI applications from your desk, using the latest AI models!” the company said in a blog post.

Hugging Face Co-founder Thomas Wolf revealed on social media that the first deliveries will begin post-summer 2025 through 2026.

""A dream come true: cute and low priced, hackable yet easy to use, powered by open-source and the infinite community," Wolf said.

At launch, users can access 15+ preloaded behaviours from the Hugging Face hub, with future updates to include JavaScript and Scratch support. The robot is modular, fully open-source, and designed for hands-on learning, coding with kids, and collaborative building.
