The Translate app delivers both audio and on-screen translations, intelligently recognising pauses, accents, and intonations to ensure natural conversations. Available on Android and iOS, this feature is rolling out first in the U.S., India, and Mexico.
"Translate smoothly switches between the two languages you and your language partner are speaking, intelligently identifying conversational pauses, accents and intonations. This allows you to have a natural conversation with just a single tap," Google said in a blog post.
In addition, Google is piloting a new language practice feature tailored to individual learning goals. Users can set their proficiency level and choose scenarios to practice listening and speaking skills, with exercises adapting dynamically to their progress.
Developed with input from language learning experts, the feature helps learners build confidence in real-world conversations. Initially, it supports English speakers practicing Spanish and French, and Spanish, French, and Portuguese speakers practicing English.
Powered by Gemini’s multimodal capabilities, these updates highlight Google’s push beyond basic translation, offering users more immersive tools to connect, communicate, and learn in their chosen language.
