Google has entered the fintech space with its first-ever credit card, launching the Google Credit Card in India in partnership with Axis Bank and powered by the RuPay network.

The Google Credit Card aims to simplify digital payments with benefits tied to everyday spending, offering rewards across categories like online shopping, bill payments, travel and more.

The card is designed for seamless integration with the Google Wallet app, allowing users to view transactions, pay bills, manage rewards and access offers directly from their smartphones.

Google said the card will offer attractive cashback and reward points, especially for Google services and partner platforms, though specific details on fees and interest rates will be released closer to the rollout.

The company emphasised that consumer data privacy and security will be prioritized, with built-in protections and encryption standards aligned with Indian regulations.

India was chosen as the launch market due to its rapidly expanding digital payments ecosystem, extensive smartphone penetration, and strong adoption of contactless and app-based financial services.

Google’s partnership with Axis Bank enables needed regulatory compliance and banking infrastructure support, while RuPay ensures enhanced reach across India’s payment networks.
