Elon Musk has said that X plans to open-source the code behind its messaging product, X Chat, after completing a series of security reviews in the coming months.

In a post on X, Musk wrote: *“In the next few months, we will be doing rigorous security tests of 𝕏 Chat and will open source all the code.”*

The move signals a push toward greater transparency around the platform’s private messaging infrastructure as X continues to evolve beyond a traditional social network.

X Chat is designed as the platform’s core direct messaging layer, with features aimed at secure conversations, file sharing, and potential end-to-end encryption for users across the X ecosystem.

The messaging system is expected to play a key role in Musk’s broader vision of X as an “everything app” combining social media, payments, creator tools, and AI services in one interface.
