Elon Musk Says X Will Open Source X Chat After Rigorous Security Testing

Elon Musk has said that X plans to open-source the code behind its messaging product, X Chat, after completing a series of security reviews in the coming months.

In a post on X, Musk wrote: “In the next few months, we will be doing rigorous security tests of 𝕏 Chat and will open source all the code.”

The move signals a push toward greater transparency around the platform’s private messaging infrastructure as X continues to evolve beyond a traditional social network.

X Chat is designed as the platform’s core direct messaging layer, with features aimed at secure conversations, file sharing, and potential end-to-end encryption for users across the X ecosystem.

The messaging system is expected to play a key role in Musk’s broader vision of X as an “everything app” combining social media, payments, creator tools, and AI services in one interface.

Earlier this month, Musk merged SpaceX and xAI to create one of the world’s largest and most valuable private technology companies.

In January, xAI closed an upsized Series E funding round, raising $20 billion and surpassing its initial $15 billion target. The round drew participation from major investors including Valor Equity Partners, StepStone Group, Fidelity Management & Research Company, the Qatar Investment Authority, MGX and Baron Capital Group, among other strategic partners.
