Cautio Acquires Two-Wheeler Safety Startup BYTES to Expand AI Road Safety Platform
The acquisition will see BYTES’ team and core technology absorbed into Cautio’s operations
Bengaluru-based AI video telematics startup Cautio has acquired BYTES, a two-wheeler safety technology company backed by Nikhil Kamath’s WTFund, as it looks to expand its road safety platform to cover India’s largest and most vulnerable mobility segment.
“Two-wheelers are at the heart of Indian mobility, and they deserve the same attention, intelligence, and care that larger fleets receive today,” said Ankit Acharya, co-founder and chief executive officer of Cautio. He added that integrating BYTES into the company would accelerate the development of a comprehensive safety infrastructure for all road users.
The acquisition will see BYTES’ team and core technology absorbed into Cautio’s operations. According to NCRB data, India records more than 1.7 lakh road fatalities every year, with two-wheelers accounting for 46% of all deaths, underscoring the need for targeted safety interventions.
BYTES has been focused on building safety solutions and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) specifically for two-wheelers, a segment constrained by limited space, power availability, and highly variable road conditions.
The startup has developed vision-based systems that enable real-time risk detection and rider behaviour analysis, capabilities that Cautio plans to integrate into its existing video intelligence platform.
Cautio currently provides video telematics and safety solutions for autos, cabs, buses, and logistics fleets, with deployments across more than 50 Indian cities. The company said the acquisition reflects its strategy to extend safety coverage beyond four-wheelers.
Following the deal, BYTES’ founders and team will join Cautio’s research and development unit.
“Our mission at BYTES has always been to make riding safer without adding friction,” said Aayush Kumar and Prakhar Agrawal, co-founders of BYTES.
Earlier this year, Cautio raised ₹11 crore to strengthen its R&D efforts and scale its AI technology.
