Bengaluru-based water tech startup SmartTerra has secured US $1 million in a Pre-Series A funding round led by Siana Capital, with participation from Shalini Chhabra and Kumar G. of 3i Partners.

The capital will fuel SmartTerra’s expansion across India, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia, and help grow its engineering and AI teams.

SmartTerra builds AI-powered analytics software for water utilities, enabling real-time insights into pipe leaks, aging infrastructure, and contamination risks. Its platform integrates disparate utility data — such as meter readings, maintenance logs, and network information — to identify loss, reduce non-revenue water, and optimise operations.

The startup counts major clients like SUEZ India and Larsen & Toubro among its partners.

“We are building AI-powered intelligence to improve these systems … to help people who manage water & wastewater networks see clearly, act early, and protect every last drop,” the startup said.

SmartTerra was founded in 2020 by Gokul Krishna Govindu (CEO), Giridharan Sengaiah (COO), and Navaneethan Santhanam (Chief Scientist).

With the new funding, SmartTerra aims to deepen its technology stack and expand its footprint in cities across regions facing worsening water infrastructure challenges.

According to SmartTerra, better monitoring and AI-driven insights can help utilities act proactively — preventing leaks, reducing waste, and boosting service delivery across fast-growing urban and industrial markets.
