Anthropic’s Claude Can Now Build Excel Spreadsheets in Minutes — Automating Data, Reports, and Financial Models

Anthropic’s AI assistant Claude is stepping beyond text responses, now offering the ability to create and edit Excel spreadsheets directly within Claude.ai and the desktop app. The update, available in preview for Max, Team, and Enterprise users, is designed to make data-heavy tasks faster and more accessible. Pro users will gain access in the coming weeks.

For Excel users, the upgrade could prove transformative. Instead of manually building financial models, project trackers, or budget templates, users can now describe their needs in plain language.

Claude then generates fully functional spreadsheets with working formulas, multiple sheets, and automated dashboards. It can also clean raw data, run statistical analyses, and provide written insights—turning hours of work into minutes.

Cross-format capabilities add to the appeal. Claude can extract data from PDFs to build Excel models, or turn meeting notes into structured reports. Tasks like sales forecasting, customer segmentation, and variance tracking can now be handled end-to-end by the AI.

"This transforms Claude from an advisor into an active collaborator. You bring the context and strategy; Claude handles the technical implementation behind the scenes," Anthropic said.

Claude achieves this by running in a private computing environment where it can write code and execute programs.
