Andreessen Horowitz Bengaluru Office Report Turns Out to Be Fake News
Anish Acharya, General Partner at a16z, has publicly refuted the claim on social media.

A report claiming that US-based venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) was setting up an office in Bengaluru has turned out to be false.
The story, first published by Mint and amplified by several Indian media outlets, alleged that the Silicon Valley giant was planning to hire a local team to scout early-stage AI and SaaS startups in India.
However, Anish Acharya, General Partner at a16z, has publicly refuted the claim. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Acharya wrote:
“As much as I adore India and the many impressive founders + investors in the region, this is entirely fake news!”

The denial has sparked debate about the growing trend of misinformation in India’s startup media ecosystem, where unverified “exclusive” reports often spread rapidly without direct confirmation from key stakeholders.
While India has become an attractive destination for global VCs amid the AI and SaaS boom, a16z has not made any official announcement about expanding operations in the country.
As of now, a16z’s India presence remains limited to a few past investments, including CoinSwitch Kuber.
On Thursday, the VS firm announced that former VMware CEO Raghu Raghuram is joining the firm as a General Partner and Managing Partner, marking one of the most high-profile executive additions in recent years.
