AI Startup New Computer Shuts Down, Sunsets Dot App
After a year of exploration, the company’s founders said their visions had diverged.

AI startup New Computer announced it is winding down operations and sunsetting its companion app Dot.
Founded on the idea that computers should connect with people on a deeper, more human level, New Computer saw Dot grow into a tool that helped hundreds of thousands of users. Initially built as a personal intelligence app, Dot later explored “social intelligence” — supporting people in better understanding themselves and each other.

However, after a year of exploration, the company’s founders said their visions had diverged. “Rather than compromise either vision, we’ve decided to go our separate ways and wind down operations,” the founders shared in a statement.
Acknowledging that users will lose access to what many considered a friend and confidante, New Computer said Dot will remain active until October 5, giving time for farewells and data downloads.
“We are grateful to all of you who trusted Dot with your stories,” the team said. “It has been the privilege of a lifetime.”
Earlier this year, AI software firm Builder.ai officially entered insolvency proceedings. The company has raised over $450 million to date.
