A new [report](https://www.boozallen.com/expertise/cybersecurity/threat-report-when-cyberattacks-happen-at-ai-speed.html?ref=theleftshift.com) from Booz Allen Hamilton warns that cyberattacks are accelerating at unprecedented speeds as artificial intelligence reshapes both offensive and defensive cybersecurity strategies.

According to the report, AI is rapidly compressing [cyberattack](https://www.theleftshift.com/global-cyberattacks-average-1-900-per-week-as-genai-data-risks-rise-report/) timelines—from days or weeks to minutes—creating what the firm describes as a widening “speed gap” between attackers and defenders.

The shift is being driven by AI-powered tools that allow attackers to automate reconnaissance, adapt to defenses in real-time, and execute attacks at scale. These capabilities make it significantly harder for traditional security systems to detect and respond before damage is done.

The report highlights how AI is lowering the barrier to entry for cybercrime. Previously, highly sophisticated attacks required significant expertise and resources. Now, AI tools are enabling less-skilled actors to launch advanced attacks, effectively “democratising” cyber warfare.
