Google One subscription service has surpassed 150 million subscribers, marking a 50% increase since February 2024, *Reuters* [reported](https://www.reuters.com/business/google-hits-150-million-users-subscription-service-with-help-ai-2025-05-15/?ref=theleftshift.com).

Launched nearly six years ago, Google One initially focused on cloud storage. It now includes various subscription levels, with lower-priced plans offering storage only.

According to Google VP Shimrit Ben-Yair, the AI plan has already attracted “millions” of subscribers.

The surge follows the launch of a $19.99/month AI-powered tier, which offers capabilities beyond what’s available to free users.

The AI tier reflects Alphabet’s broader strategy to reduce its reliance on advertising, which accounted for over 75% of its $350 billion in revenue last year.

Google has [reportedly](https://www.theleftshift.com/google-previews-ai-agent-for-software-development-ahead-of-i-o-2025/) begun previewing a new suite of AI-powered tools, including an advanced coding assistant, to employees and select developers ahead of its annual I/O conference.

The flagship tool, an AI agent designed to support software engineers end-to-end—from coding to documentation—underscores Google's push to dominate the rapidly evolving AI landscape.
