Adobe Integrates AI Image Models from OpenAI and Google into Firefly, Expands to Mobile
Firefly, which Adobe introduced in 2023, has until now featured the company’s own AI models

Adobe announced on Thursday that it is integrating image-generation AI models from OpenAI and Google into its Firefly creative platform and is also rolling out a mobile version of the app.
Firefly, which Adobe introduced in 2023, has until now featured the company’s own AI models to generate images and video content.
Adobe has promoted Firefly as a tool that allows users to create content without facing legal uncertainty regarding intellectual property rights.
In a shift, Adobe will now also support third-party generative models. Users will soon be able to create images using OpenAI’s image generation tools, Google’s Imagen 3 and Veo 2, as well as other models like Flux 1.1 Pro. Adobe plans to include additional models from partners such as Pika, Ideogram, fal.ai, Luma, and Runway in the future.
“We still have many customers who will only use Firefly for final production due to its commercial safety guarantees. But for earlier stages of the creative process, like ideation, they’re open to experimenting with a variety of models. We’re giving them that flexibility," Ely Greenfield, Adobe’s Chief Technology Officer for Digital Media, said.
Content created using these third-party models in Firefly can be seamlessly transferred to Adobe's flagship applications like Photoshop. Users will be able to access both Adobe and partner models using the same credit-based payment system, although Adobe did not disclose how revenue will be shared with external model providers.
Earlier this year, Adobe introduced Adobe Experience Platform Agent Orchestrator, a new capability designed to help businesses seamlessly integrate AI agents into their customer experience and marketing workflows.
Agent Orchestrator acts as the data backbone for managing and deploying AI agents that can engage with customers and streamline operations across both Adobe and third-party applications.
Built on the Adobe Experience Platform (AEP), which handles over one trillion customer interactions annually, the new tool is a key step in Adobe’s strategy to enable scalable, AI-powered customer engagement.
In February, Adobe also launched Photoshop on iPhone, with an Android version coming later this year.
